Application description
The CMeX1xS series expands a CMe series gateway with up to 256 extra MBus slaves. It uses standard MBus over IR and has the IR pass through function, so units can be stacked. You choose the level that suits your price and functionality needs. The S models also add an RS232 interface for any standard RS232 device. It fits almost any meter collection system, for example:
- With a CMe series gateway, to expand the MBus master to handle up to 256 slaves
- As a standalone MBus master from RS232 to MBus 2 wire
- To split an MBus 2 wire bus between two masters with galvanic isolation, using IR pass through
Operation
Power on
After power on there is a boot time that depends on the number of slaves on the bus, with a maximum of about 10 seconds. The red ERR LED is on throughout the boot.
Normal operation and idle
In normal operation the ERR LED is off and the green PWR LED is on. The TX LED flashes when data passes from the connected device (DTE) to the bus, and the RX LED flashes when slaves send data back.
Light collision detection (25 mA to 500 mA)
When a light slave collision is detected, for example during secondary addressing, the unit sends a 45 ms break on the MBus 2 wire bus and the right IR interface. It also sends a 45 ms break, 200 ms of garbage characters and another 45 ms break to the DTE (left IR and RS232). This lets the DTE detect collisions even over bearers that cannot carry a break signal, such as TCP/IP.
Heavy collision and short circuit (over 500 mA)
When a heavy collision or short circuit is detected, the unit switches the bus off for 0.5 seconds. It sends the same break signals as above to the right IR interface and to the DTE.
High idle current
If the idle current on the bus is too high for the model, the unit switches the MBus 2 wire interface off and restarts, with the ERR LED on. This repeats until the idle current is acceptable.
