DIN rail mounting
The unit clips onto a DIN rail. Use the clip on the underside to fit or release it. For safety, a DIN rail enclosure must cover all terminals.
Connecting to MBus
MBus is a two wire bus with no polarity.
- Use cable of 0.25 to 1.5 mm2, for example standard telephone cable (EKKX 2x2x0.25).
- Connect the wiring to the screw connector.
MBus slave ports
The unit has four MBus slave ports for wide integration: IR (left), RS232, USB and the MBus slave interface. Through them you can read the wireless meters as ordinary MBus slaves, and read the wired meters transparently, using primary or secondary addressing. CMeX50 itself appears as an MBus slave whose secondary address is its serial number.
IR interface
The IR interface is a standard transparent MBus interface over IR. Use it with Elvaco MBus metering gateways such as CMe2100 and CMe3100 to add TCP/IP and GPRS communication.
RS232 interface
The RS232 interface is a standard transparent MBus interface. Use the supplied RS232 cable (RJ45 to D SUB 9) and connect it to any standard D SUB 9 RS232 connector.
USB interface
The USB interface is a standard transparent MBus interface. Use the supplied USB cable and connect it to any standard USB master port. On Microsoft Windows a virtual COM port is created automatically. Further USB drivers are available from Elvaco.
MBus 2 wire interface
This interface behaves like any other MBus slave on the bus, with a nominal current of 1T (1.5 mA). It works directly with any standard MBus master.
Using the IR interface with CMe gateways
The IR interface lets Elvaco MBus masters, wireless MBus receivers (CMeX series) and ABB electricity meters talk to a CMe gateway with no cabling. Mount the two units side by side with their IR windows facing each other, and remove the IR shield first.
Connecting an antenna
- Connect the antenna to the SMA connector.
Depending on signal strength and surroundings, a different antenna with an extension cable can be used.
Handling of wireless MBus meters
The unit handles any wireless MBus meter that follows the standard or the OMS specification, in single or combined modes: T1, C1, T1 and C1, and S1. It decrypts AES with an individual or global key. If no key is installed for an encrypted meter, the MBus slave ports answer with a container mode telegram holding the encrypted wireless telegram. It supports OMS encryption modes 5 and 7.
Connecting the power supply
- Connect mains to the screw terminals marked N and L. The supply must be 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
- Fit a clearly marked, easily reached switch so the unit can be isolated for service.
- If an earth is available, connect it to the earth terminal.
Installing wireless MBus meters from the display
Installed wireless meters can afterwards be read on any wired MBus slave port. This procedure does not cover meters that use encryption. Use the up and down keys to scroll.
- Power up the unit. The sleep screen appears.
- Press any key to wake it.
- Enter the password (factory default 0000) and press OK.
- Select 1. Installation and press OK.
- Choose a manufacturer (Mfr) or meter type (Dev). If left blank, all meters are installed. Press OK.
- Choose the installation type and press OK: Start, keep (keeps installed meters and stays in installation mode for 60 minutes or the chosen time), Start, clear all (clears installed meters), or Start, cont (keeps installed meters and stays in installation mode until switched off).
- The unit listens for all wireless meters in range using modes C1 and T1. Installation runs for 60 minutes by default and can be stopped at any time with the ESC key.
Installed wireless meters can be read on any MBus slave port using primary or secondary addressing at 2400 baud.
Installation progress page
This page shows the progress of the installation. Meters are grouped by manufacturer or by medium, and the left and right keys switch between the two. Press OK on a group to list the meters in it.
